What should you not do in family pictures?

Stay away from white or black as these colors can create a washed-out look in photos. Accessories are great, but avoid overly chunky jewelry as it can be distracting. There are two ways you can be wrong here. Accessories not only complement your outfit, but can also be fun to use in photos.

Have the man wear a tie so the woman can hold it. Necklaces for kids to play with or hats they can hide behind If every member of the family is wearing the exact same outfit, such as jeans and a white shirt, it can seem overly uniform. I recommend choosing matching outfits, not matching outfits.

Another disclaimer: I’ve literally photographed families wearing jeans and t-shirts and they’re some of my favorite family photos I’ve ever created for a family. There aren’t necessarily the “best colors” for family pictures on the beach or perfect fall family photo outfits.
